| Objectives |
This presentation will demonstrate the
various respiratory devices and inhaled medications available for
use in the treatment of asthma. Different ways of using the MDI
will be explained and illustrated. The various spacer devices
available for the MDI will be exhibited and participants will be
allowed to use them. Presently available dry powder devices (DPI's)
will be reviewed and their advantages pointed out. Proper use of
DPI's will be taught. A new combination powder controller
medication (salmeterol/fluticasone) delivered by a DPI will be
mentioned. If time permits, new delivery devices/systems (e.g.,
new devices "in the pipeline") will be shown. Finally,
all of the inhaled medications will be available for the audience
to taste and try; costs of these medications will be discussed.
