Part I: Professional
Liability
- Appreciate where the Pharmacy fits into the equation.

Be aware of the professional/legal climate in
the health care industry.

Identify key areas that can effect the rise in
professional liability claims.

Know when you need to buy professional
liability insurance and when someone else takes
care of it for you.
- Find suitable insurance coverage for yourself.
Part II: Pharmacy Law Update

Briefly describe some of the changes going on
in Managed Care that have legal implications.

Discuss the new court ruling regarding the use
of prescription drugs for Off-Label use.

Describe how the pharmacist may become involved
in special community health projects such as Immunization and Blood Testing Programs.

Describe the recent changes in the California
Labor Codes that have affected the exempt employee status of a pharmacist.

Outline what must be done by a pharmacy that
plans to store its prescription records at a site other than the pharmacy.

Discuss changes that have recently occurred
regarding the Schedule II Triplicate (CURES Program, Use Exemption, and new Time Extension
allowances).

Discuss the recent change for the Nurse
Practitioner in being allowed to write (furnish) for Schedule III, IV, or V without having
the name of the prescriber.
