Objectives

The participant at the end of the presentation should be able to:

  1. Recognize the common presentations and complications of GERD

  2. Understand the role of PPI therapy for GERD, in particular the mechanisms by which PPIs work and the possible differences between the various PPI medications available today.

  3. Identify available treatment options for GERD including the most effective and cost-effective strategies for reflux management

  4. Understand the common reasons for failure of therapy and how to approach treatment failures

  5. Recognize the spectrum of atypical GERD and its management
