Goals

To educate participants on the latest clinical data and guidelines concerning the use of the COX-2 inhibitors for the treatment of osteoarthritis & rheumatoid arthritis.

Objectives At the end of this presentation, the participant should be able to:
  1. Compare the pharmacokinetic characteristics of the COX-2 inhibitors.

  2. Discuss the effects of conventional NSAIDs and COX-2 inhibitors on gastrointestinal safety, cardiovascular risk and renal function.

  3. Review the efficacy of the COX-2 inhibitors in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis

  4. Provide an overview of the COX-2 inhibitors place in therapy based on various treatment guidelines

  5. Describe potential for future COX-2 inhibitor uses

An AES certificate for 1.0 hour of accredited continuing education will be awarded the evening of the program for California pharmacists completing the program.  (AES does not cover other states)
