Objectives
  • Review the patho-phyisiology of diabetes and stress hyperglycemia in acute illness.
  • Discuss the optimal use of insulin therapy in the hospitalized patient.
  • Discuss insulin formulary decisions and medication safety.
  • Discuss strategies for optimal glycemic control in parenteral and enteral nutrition patients.
  • Discuss the role of oral hypoglycemic medications in the hospitalized patient.
  • Demostrate the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary team in an inpatient diabetic care initiative
